With worries about Pope Francis's health following a major alleged respiratory infection, preparations for his burial are apparently under way.
According to reports, members of the Swiss Guard in charge of the Pope's security are practicing funeral procedures. However, Pope Francis has admitted his failing health, he had earlier said he had already decided where he would be buried.
Severe chest trouble sent the pope rushing to Gemelli Hospital in Rome last Friday. Doctors finally diagnosed him with a complicated respiratory illness even though he resisted medical care for days.
Tuesday the Vatican acknowledged that the Pope has asthmatic bronchitis in addition to pneumonia, which calls for cortisone and antibiotics for therapy.
Medical tests revealed a polymicrobial infection—that is, a mix of bacteria, viruses, or other organisms had compromised his respiratory system and resulted in double pneumonia.
Given Pope Francis had part of his lung removed years ago, this is very troubling. Although the Vatican has told the world he is not running a fever, several doctors remain wary.

The lack of a high temperature, according to infectious disease specialist Dr. Carmelo D'Asero, could point to a compromised immunological response, therefore impairing his recuperation.
Speaking on the Pope's situation, 81-year-old Italian Cardinal Angelo Comastri said, "Francis seems quite calm. The Lord has his hand on his helm. Reports suggest, meantime, that Pope Francis has told close friends, "I might not make it this time."
Many have come outside Gemelli Hospital in Rome to pray for his recovery since his health is worsening. The Vatican just says that his condition is still complicated and calls for continuous medical attention, it has not yet offered a chronology for his release.
