Oyo/Osun Customs Boosts Revenue by Over ₦7.6 Billion in Just Three Months

Between March and May 2025, the Oyo/Osun Customs Command recorded an impressive ₦25.77 billion in revenue, a 36.67% jump from the ₦18.17 billion collected during the same period in 2024.

Comptroller Joseph Adelaja, speaking at the Agodi headquarters in Ibadan, credited this leap to better enforcement, officer dedication, and the use of modern trade tools that cut down on leakages and boosted compliance among excise stakeholders.

While revenue was the headline figure, the command was equally active on the enforcement front. In May alone, officers seized smuggled goods worth ₦335.6 million. These included parboiled rice, petrol, secondhand clothing, and fake medicines.

Adelaja didn’t mince words about the risks smuggling poses: it hurts local producers, endangers public health, and drains money meant for vital infrastructure. He emphasized that all seizures were carried out under Section 245 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act, 2023 the law that gives Customs the authority to act on banned goods.

With the festive season approaching, the command plans to step up anti-smuggling operations even further to keep communities safe and supply chains clean.
