The only known survivor of the tragic Air India Flight 171 crash has said he was still inside the burning aircraft when it went down, contradicting earlier rumors that he jumped out before impact.
In an interview with DD India from his hospital bed, 28-year-old Vishwash Kumar Ramesh said, “I was in the plane when it caught fire. I don’t know how I got out, but I somehow walked to the ambulance.”
The interviewer appeared visibly surprised, noting that many believed Ramesh had escaped through an emergency exit before the crash. Ramesh, however, insisted that he remained in the aircraft throughout the ordeal and has no clear memory of how he survived or exited the wreckage.
Ramesh, a British citizen, is currently being treated for injuries at a local hospital in Ahmedabad. He confirmed that his family is in London and has been contacted following the crash.
The Air India flight, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, crashed into a residential area shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad on its way to London’s Gatwick Airport. At least 265 people were confirmed dead, including passengers, crew, and residents on the ground.
Ramesh’s account adds a powerful personal layer to the ongoing investigation, as officials continue to search for answers behind the sudden crash.
