The public shows significant concern about Nigerian Senate integrity following the political dispute between Godswill Akpabio and Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki who previously served as Senate President stressed that institutional dignity must receive more importance than personal disagreements.
The problem has disappointed Saraki while he warns that the public trust in the Senate faces the risk of degradation because of this conflict. He appealed to all involved within and outside the legislative chamber to prevent their actions from threatening the credibility of the Senate.
An unbiased and transparent inquiry needs to be conducted by the Senate Committee on Ethics Privileges and Public Petitions according to his request. The prosecutor highlights that both involved entities must participate in the investigation while completely supporting its proceedings and permitting established judicial processes. The 8th Senate Chair appeared willingly to the Ethics Committee because of an allegation that he imported vehicles. According to him the act of openness between stakeholders would lead to the restoration of public trust.
Saraki declared that he stood for Senate integrity rather than political allegiance. He expressed his concern that mistreating women at work can make the Senate appear to embrace sexual harassment together with gender inequality and violating official duties. He emphasized that any unethical behavior needs to be handled by following standard process to achieve resolution.
The end of his statement directed all democratic enthusiasts to safeguard and reinforce the Senate as an institution to maintain its pure nature. Every person at any level of office must respect the credibility of the legislative body according to his statement.
Public attention now concentrates on Senate leadership because observers need to see if they prioritize institutional honesty or if political convenience will damage legislative credibility.
