Onitsha Traders Sue NAFDAC, Civil Defence Corps Over Alleged Rights Violations

Legal action was initiated by four traders based in the Ogbo Ogwu Bridge Head Market against NAFDAC together with Standards Organisation of Nigeria and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps. The lawsuit was submitted to a Federal High Court in Awka where the traders demand to protect their basic human rights from the claimed unlawful interference.

The traders oppose the recent business raids because they believe authorities performed these actions improperly. The legal action incorporates Dr. Martins Iluyomade as NAFDAC’s South-East Zonal Director together with the Anambra State Commandant of the Civil Defence Corps.

Online discussions about this issue have become intense because numerous individuals doubt how officials handled the situation. The practice of executing store raids during absent times has led social media users to call it economic sabotage. Different groups expressed support for the enforcement either because it eliminated counterfeit drugs as well as expired products which pollute the market.

According to a social media contributor there is a high volume of fake pharmaceuticals made within the area and blocking their sale should not be characterized as trader persecution. A different user disputing this point maintained that legal drugs still enter black market distribution even in developed nations which have strict border restrictions.

The ongoing legal process will evaluate how law enforcement balances their duties with the rights of traders while determining the case's outcome.
