Monday Okpebholo, Edo State Governor, has received the administrative panel of inquiry report on the financial activities of eighteen impeached local government chairmen between September 2023 and November 2024 Discovering ₦96 billion in claimed financial mismanagement, the report has driven the governor to promise to petition the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Under the direction of Solomon Imohiosen, the panel discovered notable financial misbehaviour in local government funding management. The report states that throughout the inquiry period the Joint Allocation Account Committee (JAAC) paid the eighteen councils ₦ 95 billion.
Still, the money was allegedly wasted without any significant development initiatives to support the spending. Under the guise of "Security, Environment, and Training," a forensic investigation found that over ₦10 billion was fraudulately syphoned.
According to the study, it was alleged that the impeached chairmen helped create a secret account reportedly used as a means of channelling government money. Investigators discovered that huge amounts were moved to several people and businesses without obvious reason.
The results also allegedly link former Edo State governor Godwin Obaseki and several leaders of a faction within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). After reading the report, Governor Okpebholo reaffirmed his dedication to openness and responsibility and promised to make sure the people in charge of the financial misbehaviour answer for it.
The matter is supposed to be sent to the EFCC for additional inquiry and maybe prosecution.
