Catholic Bishop Conducts Mass Wedding for 21 Couples in Niger State

On Sunday, February 16, the Most Reverend Dr. Bulus Yohanna, the Catholic Bishop of the Kontagora Diocese, presided over a mass wedding ceremony that were attended by twenty-one couples in the state of Niger.

The ceremony was held at St. Mark Catholic Church in Nsanji Nkoso, which is located in the Magama Local Government Area. It brought together couples who had previously finished their traditional marriage ceremonies and had participated in marriage counselling for a period of three months.

Bishop Yohanna emphasised that the ceremony was necessary in order to guarantee that the couples were legally married in the eyes of the church through the right rite. In addition to emphasising that cohabitation without a formal church blessing is not recognised as a real marriage.

He urged couples to construct their relationships on the foundations of love, trust, and companionship. "Marriage is a lifetime commitment, and it must be built on love and companionship," according to the episcopal statement.

The priest also urged the couples to accept their new position with a feeling of responsibility and faith in their relationship responsibilities. Mr. and Mrs. Cyprian Uche, who had been living together for 22 years and had five children, were one of the couples that were taken into consideration.

They expressed their gratitude by mentioning that the act of formally registering their marriage provided them a great deal of happiness. In addition, Mrs. Uche brought attention to the fact that she was now qualified to occupy leadership positions within the women's fellowship of the church, which was a privilege that she had been denied in the past.

Members of the couple's families, as well as church authorities and parishioners, gathered to witness the occasion and celebrate the couple's union in faith. The mass wedding was attended by a large number of faithful individuals.
