Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, a federal lawmaker representing Ideato North/Ideato South in Imo State and spokesperson for the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), has been expelled from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The decision, effective immediately, was announced on Friday, December 6, by the party’s Imo State chapter.
Lancelot Obiak, the PDP’s Publicity Secretary in Imo, confirmed the expulsion in a statement, citing Ugochinyere’s involvement in gross indiscipline, insubordination, and anti-party activities. The expulsion was based on a report from the party’s disciplinary committee and a formal letter from the Ideato LGA chapter, signed by Chairman Hon. ThankGod Okeke and Secretary Onyebuchi Umeh.
It was reported that Ugochinyere was suspended at the ward level in October 2024, marking the start of the disciplinary procedure, after he consistently neglected to show up for meetings and answer requests to defend himself against accusations of alleged misbehaviour.
The party claims that his suspension came after a string of warnings and cautions that were disregarded. On December 5, 2024, the Ideato North LGA Executive Committee adopted the committee’s findings, which led to the expulsion.
Ugochinyere was accused of multiple violations, including refusing to engage in party activities, airing internal disputes publicly without authorization, and attempting to create parallel leadership structures at various levels within the party. He was also criticized for making public statements that were deemed insulting and damaging to the party’s reputation and its leaders.
The PDP emphasized that Ugochinyere’s actions breached the party’s constitution, leaving no choice but to revoke his membership. This is to confirm that the party creates no room for corruption in the country as more and more news about corruption keeps flooding the internet on a daily basis.
