Akwa Ibom Police Uncover Family-Run Gun Factory Supplying Criminals

On 2nd December, the State Commissioner of Police who is identified as CP Joseph O. Eribo, during a press briefing at the Command Headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo, disclosed that the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has uncovered a shocking case of illegal firearms manufacturing owned by a man and his lovely sons.

According to Eribo, the police found out after they acted on genuine investigation. A tactical operation led to a raid on the illegal factory, which resulted in the arrest of one suspect identified as David Nse Emmanuel. David’s father known as Akpan Nse Emmanuel, and his other sons allegedly ran away before being caught.

During the raid, law enforcement agents discovered an alarming hoard of weapons, including seven recently manufactured single-barrel pistols, five double-barrel guns, a special steel double-trigger handgun, a broken single-barrel gun, and a trigger-handle walking stick knife. They also confiscated numerous tools and cut iron pipes that were thought to have been utilised in the manufacture of cannon barrels.

Speaking on the operation, CP Eribo expressed his concern over the factory's role in arming criminals within the region. He felt a certain level of disappointment over the act of a father and his sons in the society.

The Commissioner informed the public that the police are committed to fighting the spread of illegal firearms and will step up efforts to catch the remaining criminals. This incident serves as a sharp reminder of law enforcement's limitations in combating the illegal arms trade, which promotes regional violence and insecurity. As investigations continue, the public is encouraged to be watchful and report any suspicious activity to authorities.

The Nigerian police are still investigating the case to make sure that the county is in a safe space for all the citizens and visitors. Thank you for reading also go ahead and share this article with your family and friends.
